Teresa, I'm assuming that you're referring to Neolamprologus Brichardi ( Lyretail, black patch on the gill cover etc )? If you're, they are very tough fish from Lake Tanganyika, where the water is very hard 8.0 - 9.0 pH but, tank raised fish will survive and even spawn in your water. Down side is that they are aggressive and very territorial ( just like most cichlids ). I would not suggest you keep them with very peaceful fish, I would recommend you chose another Cichlid from Lake Tanganyika ( i.e.- Neolamp. Leleupi, Neolamp. Cylindricus, even shell dwellers like Neolamp. Ocellatus..Brevis..Meleagris etc.). You can contact me offline for any additional suggestions.
