I didn't say Algodon II & A. cruzi are synonyms. I said that Algodon II might be the same fish as A. sp. Putumayo. A. sp. Putumayo is one of many apistos in the trade that comes in as "A. cruzi". This is actually a complex situation that still hasn't been completely sorted out yet. Right now virtually any eunotus-like species with abdominal stripes & coming from Peru is called "A. cruzi" in the trade. It's hard to say which "cruzi" you have. The true A. cruzi, conforming to the holotype from the Rio Mazán, is extremely rare in the hobby. It is a beautiful fish with bicolored tail - the upper lobe orange & the lower lobe red-streaked pale blue (see Aqualog's SAC II, p. 30, S03459-4). It doesn't have as deep a body as an eunotus form, but is shaped more like Masken/Masked or regani. The thing that confused us at first was that Kullander added fish from the Rio Putumayo & Caquetá to his description of A. cruzi, too. These specimens were poorly preserved with faint dark markings. These are the same as A. sp. Putumayo. Better preserved specimens show that Putumayo & cruzi are different species (the abdominal stripes end in different parts of the caudal peduncle).
