Re: algodon II

Rik,

It appears that you probably do have A. sp. Papagei/Parrot (=Algodon I). It's easy
to separate Papagei (Algodon I) from Putumayo (Algodon II) by looking at the
caudal spot. Putumayo has a single slightly oval caudal spot. Papagei has 2 caudal
spots joined to make a caudal patch similar to that of A. commbrae. I agree, the
Putumayo in L&S is very pale. Males in the proper lighting usually show some deep
burgundy color on the lateral band and abdominal stripes. They have very little
color on the face, however. BTW I hate the names "Algodon I & II". As you can see,
there's too much confusion about these names. I'd prefer we use Papagei/Parrot
instead of Algodon. Since I'm not sure if Algodon II is the same as Putumayo, I'm
stuck with the name even though Algodon II is supposed to come from the Ampiyacu,
not the Algodon.
