Re: Mikrogeophagus ramirezi questions/My two cents on advertising

Max,

".....take a wild guess where the original cac's came from" .......that's
nice to hear!

I have not had the sexing problem with rams that occur with some of the
other "dwarfs".....but be wise to this Max......there is a claim out there
in Fish world that rams are not a very long lived fish......I'm not too sure
just what the actual life in the wild is of an apisto dwarf
cichlid........I've talked to the likes of David Soares and Uve Roomer and
their opinion is that in the wild most dwarfs probably last only a season or
so.......predation. Certainly they last longer in our aquariums....I have
cacatuoides that are 3 years old.....rather snaggle-toothed but they are
around and occasionally might breed every 5-6 months if a female happens to
swims within range of him because he for sure is not chasing
her..........but I have had 2- 2 1/2 year old rams.......that's about my
limit.........the higher the temp the less that time might be............but
that is a good question....but not having experienced sex problems with rams
at any temp........maybe rams just don't have the sex problems that apisto
do............Roomer says the sex can be determined up to 6-7 weeks after
the laying of the eggs..........that just amazes me!
