Tsuh Yang, This thread probably better belongs on the SACSG list, but others seem interested, so here's what I found in Weidner's book. The true G. braziliensis is found around Rio de Janeiro. It's been listed in many other different places, but we aren't certain now that these other fish didn't belong to other members of the complex, unrecognized at the time. There are several other species/forms found north of Rio. G. sp. Bahia Red is found around Salvador. G. obscurus is found in the Rio Paraguaça. G. itapicuruensis is found in the Rio Itapicuru, west of Conde. The most northerly form is G. cf braziliensis Pernambuco from near Recife. Your fish, collected from around São Paulo, were probably G. iporangensis. A similar fish was collected by Staeck between Tenente Portela & Crissiumal in the Rio Turvo, a tributary of the Rio Uruguai.
