hi Sal, does the timing for light that you describe occure in a planted tank? I was just thinking that it would be taff maybe on plants because they got to go into primary producer when light is on and back to just breathing when it's out therefore maybe disturbing their growth and health. I would think they need a certain amount of straight hours of light. just my 2 cents. thanks for your input. take care Yvan Alleau 712 N.W Kings Blvd Corvallis, OR 97330 College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences Oregon State University office (Burt 222) # 737-3649, to be used wisely! Lights go on at 7am off at 11am, than back on at 3pm and off at 9pm (obviously on a timer). Lights go off at 11 am because nobody is home during the day and I want to enjoy my fish in the evening when I'm home without keeping the lights on 14 hrs. Never had any problems. sal ----- Original Message ----- From: "Yvan Alleau" <yalleau@coas.oregonstate.edu> To: <apisto@listbox.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 29, 2002 3:20 AM Subject: light and fry > hi all, > ok here is another subject! > ususally when i have apistos with fry i leave a small light on during the > night so that the parent can still take care of the eggs / fry. it has never > been a problem until now. parents seem to kind of being awake but not > completely...kind of in a torpor. > Lately i had some A. borelli with ~ 100-150 young. everything was great > until on morning everybody (fry) or almost was dead. > It was their 4 days of free swimmers and they were eating very well and were > growing darn fast. > Ok here is the question: do you think that they have been sooo exhausted > that they died?
