I think I read some time ago that you can mix acid with your sand and see if there are any bubbles. The release of gas from the sand indicates that it has non-inert components to it. >From: "Chris Jewell" <chris@jewell68.freeserve.co.uk> >Reply-To: apisto@listbox.com >To: <apisto@listbox.com> >Subject: Re: sand vs gravel >Date: Mon, 25 Feb 2002 17:59:22 -0000 >MIME-Version: 1.0 >Received: from [208.210.125.36] by hotmail.com (3.2) with ESMTP id >MHotMailBE43C64300B84136E858D0D27D2489880; Mon, 25 Feb 2002 09:59:23 -0800 >Received: by admin.listbox.com (Postfix)id 686092662D; Mon, 25 Feb 2002 >12:56:49 -0500 (EST) >Received: by admin.listbox.com (Postfix, from userid 502)id 70C8D26639; >Mon, 25 Feb 2002 12:56:48 -0500 (EST) >Received: from mail1.svr.pol.co.uk (mail1.svr.pol.co.uk [195.92.193.18])by >admin.listbox.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 165272662Efor ><apisto@listbox.com>; Mon, 25 Feb 2002 12:56:46 -0500 (EST) >Received: from modem-657.babbelas.dialup.pol.co.uk ([62.25.134.145] >helo=chris)by mail1.svr.pol.co.uk with smtp (Exim 3.35 #1)id >16fPMi-0005vy-00for apisto@listbox.com; Mon, 25 Feb 2002 17:56:44 +0000 >From owner-apisto-outgoing@admin.listbox.com Mon, 25 Feb 2002 10:01:22 >-0800 >Delivered-To: apisto-outgoing@admin.listbox.com >Delivered-To: apisto@listbox.com >Message-ID: <028001c1be26$28bd16c0$5c83193e@chris> >References: <17c.41f194a.29ab5849@aol.com> >X-Priority: 3 >X-MSMail-Priority: Normal >X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.00.2615.200 >X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.00.2615.200 >Sender: owner-apisto@admin.listbox.com >Precedence: bulk > >play pit sand is generally considered as an acceptable inert aquatic sand, >and its cheap and widely available, but it needs washing very well and I >would give the label a good read.
