hi, female borelli are very good and attentionate mother. i've tried to put babies A. rot punkt and N. anomala with a bunch of fry A. trifasciata but it didn't work. the "foreign" babies were not recognizing the female trifasciata as a mom but as a threat and were acting weired compared to her real babies. they were not being obediant and answering her orders. she chased each of them down after an hour of observing her deliquant kinds and killed them, but didn't touch a single "hair" of her own babies! my 2 centimes ! Considering that many apisto females will herd live food, I don't see why they won't herd some other fish's fry. Back in the prehistory of apisto breeding it wasn't uncommon to hear about someone using A. borellii females as surrogate mothers for the fry of other cichlids - even non apisto fry.
