oak leaves

Hi everyone,

I'm in the middle of setting up a breeding tank, and I was reading through 
some of the old threads on using oak leaves as ground cover and a way to 
lower pH.  The leaves are really starting to come out on the trees here in 
Connecticut, and I'm curious about using oak leaves.  Does it matter what 
time of year you "harvest" leaves?  Other than boiling the leaves for 30 
minutes to get rid of any nasties is there anything else that needs to be 
done?
