testing DH water

Hello,


HOw would everyone suggest I test the dehumidified water? Since it has a PH 
of about 5, it seems to me testing it on something like Cardinal or Rummy 
nose tetras might be a cheaper alternative then apistos. HOw long do they 
have to live for, for the water to be considered safe?

Just for anyone who missed what is happening. My dehumidifier collects water 
at a ph of 5 for some reason. The basin that it is collected in is plastic. 
However it runs over copper coils, howver the copper coils have a silver 
plating or somethign on them. I want to find out if this water is safe for 
use as softening water...
