My personal favorit is Ceratophyllum demersum. I am not sure of the 
english name.
This plant is quite sensitiv to cange in the waterquality and needs time 
to adapt to the changes. If you think you have killed it, it is not 
necessarily true, just give it time to recover. I have had this plant in 
a tank with a pH below 5 without any problem.
It grow quite rappidly when it thrive.
