New to the group, question for Colin

Hi Colin,

What are the measurements of your tank ?

I've only just joined this group about a week ago and have been lurking
around reading mail. So Hi to everyone. I'm Pauline...what else do you want
to know  ?

I've just set up my first fishroom and am trying to breed cacatoides and
anomalas, and some other non-apistos. Just depends on what we can get in
this country.

I was getting pretty fed up with waiting for something to happen. I wouldn't
normally put the mix in that I have, but I've been re-organising my fish
room to accomadate the new 2000 litre tank and had nowwhere else to put
them. I certainly wasn't expecting them to breed after no results for so
long. As far as identiftying them is concerned (for later separation) the
Santarem female is a lot bigger (older I presume.)

My guess is you can't, and neither will your males. You now have mixed your
Santarem population with aquarium agassizii. You no longer can be sure if
your Santarem population is pure, so please don't sell them as such.

I've found that prolific breeders can encourage "gay" fish to discover the
other sex. At present I have 1 quad of A. Nijsenni, 1 pair Pandurini, 1 pair
Juruensis (flecked) and 1 trio of Agasizzi  and 1 pair Agasizzi "Santarem"
in an 80 gallon tank, the only one of these pairs that has previously been
successful was the Panduros (the Nijsenni are still v. young.) All the above
pairs are now breeding with the exception of the Aggies. There is so much
going on in that tank that all the protection would keep the Mafia happy for
years:-)
