Hello Alan Cacatuoides is an Apisto that can be bred and maintained in slightly alkaline harder water then that is required for most apistos... I keep them in my soft water and they do fine. I have maintained a particular strain for many generations now...... actually the strain of triple reds i keep i have been maintaining since i first got into apistos about a decade ago. A good friend of mine from my Montreal Aq Society used to keep Cacatuoides and raise them in his harder alkaline water with no problems... Contrary to popular belief...... some apistos can be bred and kept in slightly alkaline and harder water..... Not all need really soft acidic water. Dont always believe what the Books says, just because someone wrote it in a book doesnt mean its gospel..... and i say this from years of breeding well over 40 species of apistos... Good luck with them.... Cacatuoides will always be my true love when it comes to apistos..... first love is always your true one..... 8-) John ----------------------------------------------------------------------- -- This is the apistogramma mailing list, apisto@listbox.com.
