Thank you all for your inout. I'll go with a water change, followed by another 3-4 days of blackout, followed by a light treatment to be on the safe side. As someone suggested, it might also be due to some nutrient unbalance in the tank. Something i'll have to look into. Now: any good source of erythromycin you would know of? Thank you Mike about the literature advise. I'll forward your email to my firend and yes it was for a general information book. Have all a great we. For general information, I like the Baensch Aquarium Atlas. There is a lot of good information in it. The strange thing about me is that I still use my original aquarium reference a lot too. I bought this book back in the early 1970's & it is still valuable, and now can be bought second-hand for about $5 at any used book store. It's Innes's Exotic Aquarium fishes. If you want this book, I recommend the last issue before TFH got a hold on it, changed some photos, put a glossy cover on it, & overcharged for it. As for the blue-green algae, I think that the darkening the tank method should work. Once you have it reduced to a minimum, do a major water change, dose it with Erythromycin (Maracyn is Mardel's trade name for the same), do a major water change, & see if that doesn't get rid of it. Usually this problem runs its course in dimly lit tanks. Increasing the light encourages the growth of green algae which out-compete the cyanobacteria for nutrients. It should get rid of the blue-green stuff, but then you will have to work on the green algae. If it isn't one thing, it's another.
