A very maternal father

Something quite interesting happened with the L. curviceps that recently
spawned in one of my tanks.

As mentioned in my previous post on this subject, shortly after laying
the eggs the female violently attacked the male, and to protect him from
further attacks I introduced a partition (one of those white plastic
sheets with very small holes) in the tank, giving him about 20% of the
space for himself. I moved also 5 of the six rummynose tetras to this
compartment. This was on July 5, and a day later the male lost the dark
spawning coloration. Well, yesterday, several days earlier than what the
books say, all the fry became free swimming and I noticed the male being
very aggressive towards the tetras in his small enclosure. What happened
is that several of the fry sneaked on the other side of the compartment,
and the male grouped them for protection just like the female on her
side of the tank is doing with the rest of the fry. Quite interesting,
right? I have now removed all the dithers from the tank.
