My understanding is that a double red displays red ocelli on the dorsal and caudal fin only. Triple reds have red ocelli on the dorsal, caudal and anal fin. Ocellation can vary from small to large, and coverage can be marginal to extensive on each fin. This variation can be observed within a given batch of fry. The most highly sought fish are those with complete caudal coverage and extensive dorsal coverage. The Aqualog book shows pictures for a wide variety of cacatuoides colorations, including the double/triple reds, orange and red "flame" types (fin coloration appears in streaks or patchs, not in ocelli), wild colorations, etc. What I have not seen since the original photo, which I believe was in "Know your Cichlids", was the blue cacatuoides. The picture showed two males closing in on mouth-to-mouth combat and the coloration on both fishes was a sky blue. No other color could be seen on either fish. Has anyone ever seen such a cacatuoides in person? Tom
