Back in pre-spam days, it was actually useful for some lists to allow non-participants to mail, because someone could provide one-time-only help, or you could read the list via a Usenet gateway and reply to the list, etc. Like I said, the aquatic plant list was set up that way. Over the course of maybe a month unsolicited posts changed drastically last year and the moderator ended up changing to the more severe restriction. More ObApisto: Kathy thinks our borelli are spawning. We've found to our delight that the water at our new house is < 10 ppm alkalinity, and as a result all our tanks are pH of 4.5-5.5 according to the pH meter (according to the pH chemicals, it's "very yellow"...below 6.0). Just got the classic overturned flowerpot, plus lots of java moss and floating plants. (For some reason, the plants are not dying at this pH. My only possible theory is that it's not strongly buffered, differentiating it from the tanks with lots of acid additives. Could be hooey.) - Erik - --- Erik Olson eriko at wrq.com
