I've always understood that because the Germans had extensive colonization efforts in S.A., they had better access to these fish; even better than we did here in the US. I have read that the first neon tetras in the US, for instance, came from Germany (on the Hindenburg, no less) They had already been brought to Germany and were beginning to become available there at that time. This association with S.A. would certainly contribute/support their overall interest in S.A. fish. Tom
