Could the P. nicholsi be Pseudocrenilabrus nicholsi? This is a very
beautiful fish. The males are very aggressive and do best
with several females to disperse their energy. They also love to dig. Back
in the mid 80's they were available but after a few years the stock seemed
to have declined badly with only skinny ugly ones around. I have not seen
them for several years.
