It's almost intangible. I'd call kribs and altispinosa dwarf cichlids. Biotodomo wouldn't qualify for me. Why? Behavior. There are 'borderline' species in the artificial classification of dwarfs. Outside of breeding time, my kribs and altis have acted small. So have things like Laetacara sp 'buckelkopf' and a few other chunkier little fish. While I love Biotodomo cupido, mine got big and acted it. They were rough. The same is true for Crenicara punctulata - a bruiser for its size in my experience. So since 'dwarf cichlid' is a badge of honour for me, I'd only apply it to 'nice' medium sized little cichlids. I guess that answers nothing. If it's undeniably small and nasty, it's still a dwarf, if it's borderline and nasty, it isn't. -Gary ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the apistogramma mailing list, apisto@majordomo.pobox.com.
