I kept P. multicolor for almost two years in both breeding setups and community tanks. Except for the female starving herself till her bellybutton wrapped around her spine while brooding the eggs, I found them to be ideal community fish. Was I fortunate in having a particularly docile pair of fish which passed it on to their progeny for the several generations I kept? While the ASG concentrates on fish of S. America and West Africa, do fish like shell dwellers and julies meet this dwarf behavioral pattern?
