I, too find restricting certain species acceptable but I think you
missed the point. These fish are on the clean list and CAN BE IMPORTED
into Australia. The fish are prevented easy access to hobbyists because
of fears of diseases being introduced with them. But these same fish
would be allowed in the country if shipped through some big exporter who
spent the money and has gotten the correct permits even though their
fish aren't quarentined for any length of time either. The quarantine
requirement applies to domestically raised as well as wild caught fish.
All it does is prevent the small hobbiest or exporter from doing
business in Australia. Does this sound fair or like a lot of
bureaucracy?
