Should I artificially hatch the eggs?
I'd say give them a fews attempts to do it themselves.

The eggs may not hatch at all in such high pH/hardness 
water.

I think rams form monogamous pairs at least for the length 
of the spawning cycle, another female would be threatened.

Good idea, I would like to take a look at them.  Don't
