Re: Black Beach Sand

I bought something called "Black Beauty" at a sandblasting supply store. It cost
about $12 for 100 pounds, but I beleive only the largest available grade wiill
work in an undergravel-filter setup. When I mentioned "Black Beauty" about a
year ago on this list, someone sent out warnings that it contained some element
that is supposed to be harmful. Well, I've had it in my two show tanks for
several years and it has never caused a problem, and other aquarists in my area
have also been using it. It is inert. I think it is very attractive as it is
pitch black. It does not fade throughout time as does the black-colored
pet-store gravel. Even though it is used in sandblasting, it is not abrasive.
