You may, depending on the pair have to move the male after spawning to curb aggression or if you keep losing spawns. >From your other point of losing fry on third generation fish it may just be that they have lost viability due to repeated brother/sister matings, try introducing some unrelated blood. To grow out fish in a 55G is certainly a good idea but I doubt you would raise more fry in a mixed species tank. Anomala can be pretty tough fish when breeding.
