Helpful toy

During Christmas shopping I bought a 30x "toy" microscope for a nephew. I
found it at Radio Shack for $6. It resembles a small rectangular
flashlight. It has an adjustable focus and a battery operated light.

I usually use a magnafying glass or jewelers loop for inspecting parasites
or organs of dead dwarf cichlids. (I linked it to the list topic! VBG'-)
So yesterday I went to get one for Uncle Mike (me) and found at this store
they also have a 100X model with 6 slides and a base to hold the scope.
($13). These come with a plastic carrying case and use 2 AA batteries.

I think these would be helpful and useful to those who do not have access
to or do not own a laboratory style scope. This could help parasite ID and
get some closer looks at internal organs of diseased fish.

This from the West African Dwarf Cilidiot with a trio of Apisto. atahaulpa
"sunset" that are coloring up to some of the most beautiful colors I have
ever seen on an Apisto. The name "sunset" is not an exaggeration at all.

One of the females is living with a group of Corydoras gossei in a bare
tank waiting the male to mature. When I feed the Corys black worms she take
them and "piles" them in a corner and guards them like a clutch of fry. She
is about 4 cm and the corys are 7 to 9 cm. Keeps her busy and the corys
looking for their worms.

The other female is in a similar tank with a group of Cory concolor and
some Columbian red fin blue tetra young that are growing out. She never
showes any aggression towards any of them.

The male is growing fast and as I said very colorful. He stays in a planted
tank full of tetras. The only fish he ever harasses is the lone serpae
tetra. Something about him sets this guy off. There are "pristellas",
"bronze", and "green fire tetras" with Aspidoras cats and LDA 25 plecos. He
just dont like red I guess.

Back to reading and learning abouy the apistos. So get some good topics going!!
