Re: Water chemistry questions - part II

My water comes out of my well at 4.5 pH, 0 DH, 0 KH, and a
microsiemens of leess then 45. My pH stabilizes at 5.5. In this water
I have spawned and raised many A.cacatoudies. However I have to
caution you that you will get many more males. This works for me since
my wholesaler prefers the males anyway. If you could mix some
chemicals to get the values a little higher you will far much better
as far as sex ratio's go. According to the litreture the values in the
native waters are pH 7.6, 12 DH, and 14 KH. One of the commonly
available products on the market is RO right and it will allow you to
raise your conductivity and give you a nuetral pH. This product is
inexpensive and works rather well. In the end cacatoudies are pretty
hardy fish and will adapt to a wide variety of conditions so keep your
long term goals in mind and go with what will work best for you. Good
luck
