I've never known Fils to be overly aggressive.
As for the barbels missing on the corys, you might want to check your
water quality really careful.   Thats normally a sign something is wrong
with your water when corys barbels come up missing or as someone else
mentioned how large is your gravel and how sharp is it.   Good luck
