I have admired P humilis for some time and had quite a few. I have tried
all the things you mention and to no avail. They need large aquaria and
lots of hiding places. Good clean soft water with an acid pH. I have tried
5.0 to 7.0???   The males dig and need a very soft substrate.  soil or
creek sand that is smooth. The females are always courting and the males
are always nasty!!
