Re: brooding female?

Hi again Jason.

I regularly pull females with eggs or wiglers out of a tank and for
the last 15 years I can say that I have never had a negative incident.
However you must take into account the source of the fish. Problems
seem to arise when we are dealing with highly inbred fish or , most
often!, we are providing inproper water conditions. The fish I have
been dealing with have almost always been wild or offspring from my
origanal wild stock. With that disclaimer, I beleive the odds are high
that taking a peek will be a safe bet.

Personaly I will take a female Apisto cave and all out of a community
tank and place her in a 5 gallon with some java moss and water sprite.
If she has wigglers i take a turkey baster and suck them up and
transfer mama and alvins into a 5 gallon as well. How long has the
flower pot been in the tank? Be aware that it takes about 10 days for
the eggs to hatch and then for the alvins to become free swimming.
Whats your temperture in the aquarium? Beleive when when I tell you
ten days can seem like an eternity when we are waiting for some fry!
Good luck Jason, let me know how things turn out.

P.S. If you deciede you want to pull the female with eggs/wigglers
e-mail me and i'll go over the details with ya.
