Laetacara curviceps aren't the easiest fish to sex until they are fully mature. Then the males are slightly larger, a bit more slender, and have more pointed, but not extended, dorsal and anal fins. Both sexes of L. thayeri have longer extensions on the dorsal fin, but again the male's fin is more pointed.
