Re: A.sp.Malome, A. sp. Iquitos and A. sp. "Blue"

Charles,

Just because an apisto has an orange pectoral spot doesn't make it a member of the
eunotus-complex. Other regani-group species, belonging to other complexes, also
have this feature (A. gossei & A. geisleri for example). It takes more than a
single feature to define a group or complex. Since your fish looks like A. sp.
Lagoa Abuna, I assume that it has the narrow zigzag lateral band and abdominal
streaks or smudges seen on this fish. These streaks tend to form diagonal stripes
that run downward and toward the tail - similar but narrower than those seen on
members of the caetei-complex. It also stays smaller than eunotus-complex species
and the dorsal fin is not as high. The caudal fin is smaller and more oval shape,
too.

I haven't heard of A. sp. Blue. It could be anything. I certainly hope it isn't the
same as A. sp. New Blue. New Blue is an apparent cross between a caetei- and a
resticulosa-complex species first bred in Asia and now in Europe. Just what we need
a dwarf "parrot cichlid".
