Re: iron for color

Way back when the list was young and the lava was cooling, we had a
thread on iron. My Nannacara taenia were spawning every time I added
iron after water changes (but not with water changes without the
supplement). I've tried this since with a range of dwarfs. None has been
as cooperative as taenia, but I've generally seen a rapid
intensification of colour and display, especially with non-blackwater
species. I have some 'two spot' wild alitispinosa that look lovely with
a few grains of iron added to their planted 33 gallon.
I doubt the fish are absorbing the iron as much as being somehow
triggered by it.
