I know the Kathy wrote that this is not available in the U.S. but it is a drug used in the U.S. and Canada on humans beings with AIDS to improve their immune systems and it is being used in trials for metastatic colon cancer. Although the pills (by Janssen-Ortho) are very expensive, is there any possibility that any of you unfortunate people could gently explain the situation to you doctors' and maybe they'll help out? In a 10 gallon tank, you only need 5mg/litre so, 200mg. And it's a good idea to dose twice a few days apart. I had camallanus in wild-caught Apisto. cacatoides and agassizii. I was fortunate in that the cacatoides spawned twice before the male showed signs of worms hanging out of the anus. The female took even longer to show. I had to destroy all but my female because I did not know what to treat with. She got the treatment 4 times before she was free of worms. Then she lived for another 4 months or so and I think she died of a heart attack! Very sudden death. She did not eat well for a couple of days, and then one day she just flipped along the surface and that was it. >From these two fish I raised 80 fry to adulthood. None of them were affected despite the fact that they co-habited with mom for 2 months, which was before the worms showed. The original tank was never treated for worms and the original kids are now producing the next generation. The same problems are happening with the people on the Loach Web Forum. So now I understand why it is so difficult to get the levamisole in the US. G.
