He fit his data to his theory, because not every combination of genes produces equally robust young and therefore the proportions were not as he wrote in his articles. Of course, we now know all about chromosomes and genes and how they do things, and he was right about the ratio of genes being passed on through reproduction. But wrong because not all specimens are equal in their ability to pass on their gene combinations as others are. G.
