Five gallon tanks won't allow the male to escape the females protective 
charges.  He will take a LOT of abuse.  Also, if you haven't bought a five 
lately, you don't yet know that they are about a buck more per tank than 
tens.  Tens will give you better water quality between water changes, more 
room for the male, more of everything you are looking for.
