how much RO water

Hello all
I broke down and purchased my first RO unit today.  My question is how much
treated water do I want to mix with my well water.  My water is very hard
but I don't remember the exact reading and the PH is 7.6.  It's well water
but I don't know if that will help with this question.  The store I
purchased the unit from said to start with 1 part treated water to 3 parts
well water.  Is there a set formula or is it just done with trial and error
until the desired readings are met.
