RE: Committee Chair - SHOWS - Approved (fwd)

Jeff's not on the board, so it bounced. Here is his proposal.

Hello,

Attached is a quick mock up of a flyer for the Home Show. Take a look at it
and tell me what you think.

Here's the reasoning I picked the dates I did. I picked two weekends, one in
January, and one in February, so that if someone isn't home for one of the
weekends it won't keep them from participating. The dates are towards the end
of the month so that it would be after the meetings in January and February,
letting me remind people of the home show at the meetings. Also, covering 2
meetings will make sure someone doesn't miss out if they happen to not be at
the January meeting.

We will need to decide who is in the small group that will be
visiting/photographing the tanks. I figure we can get away with one or two
cars if we have Erik for photographing, some judges (Clay, Steev, and Dave have
all been suggested to me as Judges), board members if interested, and I'll do
the route planning. This way I don't have to coordinate a huge group, and the
homes won't have a whole troop of people invading them.

Once the judges are officially signed up, we'll have to see if the random dates
I picked work out.

I put down to show the results at the 3/9 meeting, since it had no agenda on
the site, but we could use May or June instead. Also, since I haven't done
this before, I'm not really sure if the photos would be enough to take up a
whole meeting...

In the flyer, I put that it was open to all members. Should it be open to
anyone, or if a non-member wants to participate, should they have to join the
club?

Anyways, any feedback, or other judge suggestions, would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeff Stewart

Hi Jeff,

Thank you so much for volunteering to help as the GSAS Shows Committee
Chairperson. The Board unanimously approved you as chairperson at the last
board meeting. You obviously put a lot of though into your proposal and the
Board really appreciates your effort and enthusiasm.

Regarding some of the questions that you asked (about prizes, categories, entry
fees, and submission limits) the board discussed this for quite a while and, in
light of the fact that one of the other proposals already being planned for
this year is "on the competitive side," ultimately decided to promote home
show(s) as a "for fun," non-competitive event. So, we are suggesting no
prizes, categories, entry fees, or limits - just fun, friendship, and
encouragement.

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact myself or one
of the other board members. Also, if your schedule ever allows you to attend
one of the board meetings (the second Thursday evening following the second
Tuesday of each month - sounds complicated, but it works) that would be great.

Congratulations and Thanks!

Rick Rose, GSAS Secretary/Historian
