Hi Bob,
I have...
1) an unsigned, undated copy of our Articles of Incorporation which states
in the text that the original "undersigned persons," were "acting as
incorporators under the provisions of the Washington Nonprofit Corporation
Act (R.C.W. 24.03)." But again, this is only a copy of the text of the
document; it is not a signed, dated copy of what was (hopefully) filed.
2) a copy of the bylaws.
3) a form from the IRS (SS-4) which assigns our Employer Identification
Number (EIN.) The third paragraph begins,
"Assigning an Employer Identification Number does not grant
tax-exempt status to non-profit organizations. If your organization wants
to establish its exemption and receive a ruling..."
In all, there are two implications that we are a non-profit organization,
but nothing specific.
I'll bring copies of what I have and begin to research what else I might be
able to get from the State.
Rick

Here's the latest on our effort to lock in Weter hall at Seattle Pacific
University as our new meeting site.
Yesterday a contract from SPU came in the mail. I will be bringing several
copies of it to the auction for distribution to fellow board members and
other interested parties to read and comment on. I think it's very
important that this contract is checked out thoroughly by as many people as
possible, especially since it's a legal document that I have to sign.
On this contract they are asking for the following, among other things:
-Insurance; Comprehensive commercial general liability not less than
$3,000,000 per occurrence for bodily injury and $1,000,000 per occurrence
for property damage. I talked to the State Farm agent I've been dealing
with about this yesterday and he hes assured me that the premium he quoted
for $1 mil will go up very little if at all. Don't know if the other ins.
co. that I talked to or if Rick's agent's quote would be similar but I
suspect they would be.
-Proof of non-profit status. This one could be a real bugger if the
documents that Rick has aren't enough to satisfy them. Rick, could you
bring a copy of those documents with you on Tuesday?
-$150 deposit (non-refundable), covers first two months.
This looks to me like a sort of generic contract that they use on everyone
who rents their facilities, and I'm probably reading more grief into it
than is really there. Just overly cautious, I guess. I have a very good
working relationship with Judy Bruce, the conference services manager, and
I think we can work out any minor glitches that show up. They seem very
flexible and accommodating at SPU.
