Re: [GSAS-board] Tami Sims - Problems with email list and asking to "withdraw" her membership

Hi Rick,

There's something VERY VERY strange about Tami's e-mail system and its interaction with mailman (the thing that runs the gsas lists and other lists on thekrib.com). Not only did we correspond, I have spent several HOURS poking around trying to figure out what the problem is. All I know at this point is that mailman quietly rejects all mail from her. I have switched the gsas-member list to forward "all bad mail" into the holding bin instead of blindly rejecting it, and it STILL gets blindly rejected (and now I have 94 held spams from the last week -- oh boy).

So as of yet, I have no idea why this is happening. I also don't have a lot of time to devote to it right now. At some point I might be able to get back into it, but given that the e-mail lists are a free service, not just to members but to anyone who wishes to use them, and the club is not really paying a professional to maintain them (at work I'd probably get paid the more than twice equivalent of the entire annual reimbursement of the GSAS web site just to track down this problem!)... I don't have a lot of patience for someone who sends an angry heated e-mail about our horrible tech support.

Have her get a friggin' yahoo acount or something.

Tami Sims recently sent her membership application and dues to Susan. Then,
it seems, she had trouble posting to the members email list and corresponded
with Erik quite a few times attempting to resolve the problem. I first
learned of the problem when Tami sent a rather "heated" email to Susan and
me in which she asked for her dues to be refunded and her membership
"withdrawn." I didn't receive a copy of Susan's reply to her, but it seemed
to calm Tami down and now she is just asking that we "keep her dues for the
betterment of the club" but she still wishes to withdraw.

If there's any chance that the email problem can be resolved, I think that
would be the best thing to do. Then, we could let her decide if she would
prefer to remain a member or not. If the email problem cannot be resolved,
then I believe we should refund her dues (as she originally requested) with
our apologies. I would like to respond to her fairly quickly after finding
out what the other board members and Erik have to offer.

Thanks,

Rick
