Thanks very much Steev. I'll start dosing for ich this evening (and raise the temp.) Would it matter which kind of ich medication I use? I usually use Methylene Blue. I see no other problems aside from the rapid breathing and flared gills. The sick fish appears to be doing better with the recently raised salt, but the salt is only at 1 heaping tablespoon per five gallons at the moment, and probably could be raised a bit as well. Thanks again. -----Original Message----- From: owner-gsas-member@thekrib.com [mailto:owner-gsas-member@thekrib.com] On Behalf Of steev ward Sent: Sunday, September 21, 2003 8:06 PM To: gsas-member@thekrib.com Subject: Re: Sick rainbowfish advice Darcey, It sounds like a gill problem, doesn't it? (Unless there are other symptoms you are missing, like clamped fins or especially dark coloring, or bloat or something.) In that case I would suspect a gill parasite, and since it has come on rapidly after a flucuation in water chemistry (the nutrients) I would guess it is a protozoan (such as Chilodonella or Costia - either of these two could cause the symptoms Clay describes as well.). ------------------ To unsubscribe from this list, please send mail to majordomo@thekrib.com with "Unsubscribe gsas-member" in the body of the message.
