Re: [GSAS-Member] Camallanus cotti

Hi,
I think that is why I could only find expired discomed. Am seeing effects possibly caused by the expired med-fish treated with it try to eat but can't coordinate their movements, they keep missing. Not a good sign, suspect nerve damage. Worms are gone but at this rate fish will soon be gone too. There is a store down here that only buys expired stuff, he specifically asks for it as it's usually cheaper, then sells it full price. Fell for that one, got some expired stinky fish food, expired non working test kits, that sort of thing. Kind of put my guard up. Then in another smaller and further south town was a fish store with really badly expired and water damaged meds for sale. sounds like the bolus is the only last hope! They are dirt cheap, so hope they work.

I thought that Discomed was no longer available since Aquatronics closed. It
does have Levamisole in it. I'm not surprised that the expired stuff still
works, but that's nice to know. It's a shame that there is so much expired stuff
out there. In many cases you can judge it by the dust on the package.

Levamisol also has Neomycin in it (if I remember correctly) which ages poorly.
Still, I would be inclined to buy some Discomed if I found some, since they're
not making it anymore. It might be nice to have on hand even if it was past the
recommended use date.

I haven't tried Praziquantel on Camallanus but I will if I ever find any more
fish that have it. I used Praziquantel on some Corydoras metae that had a
similar worm infection but it didn't seem to help.

I'll be interested to hear how Susan does with her new Levamisole bolus.

I bought discomed for this condition, it was expired as of May 2000 and
I got it a week ago. Go figure. Tried it on some angels with obvious
camallanus and they appear to have expelled the worms despite the
expired meds being moist, discolored, stuck to the capsule and basically
being in a condition that kind of ..........
