Re: [GSAS-Member] Broken glass cover

Thank you each of you who gave me a recommendation on using acrylic
covers, and you too, Bob, for offering the material. I called the local glass shop, and they will have a 7.5 x 22.75 x 3/16 tempered glass cover for me
that will fit in the existing hinge perfectly, next week, for under $7.
I decided on glass in the end, even though glass filters out most UV, which plants need, because I am getting a 4-bulb light, that is bound to heat up more than
my current light.
My daughter gets to choose between the clown loach and the yo-yo loach.
Would the coolie loach also be a good choice?

I have also had very good results using plex covers, but you must add stiffiners or the covers will warp. Laird plastics is a good source for plastic and glue. They are located in south Seattle. What are the dimensions of the broken cover? I have some scrap plastic around that may be big enough.

I would also recomend plastic covers as they are lighter and don't shatter (glass cracks, tempered shatters right?) but beware that they do bow especially with lots of light/time. You can solve this by flipping them or cementing cross bars for support.

I would get a Plexiglass or Polycarbonate cover instead. Go to your local
Plexiglass or plastic dealer with the measurements.

Subject: [GSAS-Member] Broken glass cover

Does anyone have a recommendation for a place to get tempered glass?
One of the sections of the glass cover on my 72 gallon tank broke. It
appears that
a large Leporinus jumped and hit it just right. For the sake of the
fish, I think tempered glass is the best option.

It was a clean break. Is repairing a temporary option, and if so, I
would appreciate learning how it is best done.
Thank you,
John
