Try doing a 3 day "purge".  Essentially completely cover your tank with dark 
material and turn off all of the lights for 72 hours.  Do not bother feeding 
your fish, they'll be fine.  Doing this every 3 months or so really helps 
control algae.  This is also a great cure for blue-green algae.  No 
erythromicin, much cheaper.
