Be very careful about the bent-glass tanks from China! A lot of them are defective because they weren't cooled down properly and break easily so I have heard. I wouldn't get a large one. -----Original Message----- From: gsas-member-bounces@thekrib.com [mailto:gsas-member-bounces@thekrib.com] On Behalf Of carrera206 Sent: Tuesday, August 08, 2006 3:19 PM To: gsas-member@thekrib.com Subject: Re: [GSAS-Member] Bio/eco-sphere Thanks all for the great suggestions for the bio/sphere. Sadly however the experiment quickly came to a halt when all 5 Amano shrimp expired suddenly. I suspect spiking ammonia levels for an unfiltered and under planted tank. --- Not to mention probable overfeeding by an over-interested caretaker ;-). I decided to shun the naturalistic approach and instead to set up a nano-aquarium and use technology to help with keeping the water clean. :-) If you all haven't checked out the fish stores on Jackson in Seattle ID lately and are interested in getting a tank they would be worth a look. They are importing bent glass tanks from China that include light and built in filtration for pretty reasonable prices. I got a 7 gal nano cube with integrated compact florescent light and in tank filter for $35! They have various sizes & shapes up to 200 gals or so in a bunch of configurations. Hmmm..... Maybe I do have room to set up a 30 gal discus and cardinal tetra tank.....
