Re: [GSAS-Member] Tank on a refrigerator?

Thanks for your advice, Matt. You think I'd bust the fridge? That I don't
want to do...

The 15g is a 15 long so it's 24 x 12 x 12. My current fridge is only 28"
across so the 30g would go over on either end if the fridge in my new place
is the same size. I'm trying to accommodate the fish that are in my 80g,
minus the angelfish. That leaves me with about 14 cardinals, 6 rummy nose,
2 South American puffers, 2 small loaches, 2 bristlenose catfish, and 1
upside down catfish. I'd get rid of one bristlenose and the upsidedown
catfish. So it would be heavily stocked tank crowed with plants, but it
might work out. My poor fish... But I just hate to give up ALL of them.
They work really nicely together.

What to do, what to do...

Holly

Depends on the fridge, but I wouldn't, unless you keep the 29 half full :-)
If the surface area is the same for a tank (a 15 is 1 foot by 2 feet, a 29
is 30" by 1 foot, usually), the depth doesn't matter for most fish. It's why
killi people keep so many fish in shoeboxes and so forth -> they have the
same footprint as much larger tanks, yet 'detritus tolerant' fish like
killies don't really need the extra volume. This works for most fish, too.
Big waste producing, "thick" fish like cichlids, goldfish and catfish do
benefit from the extra gallonage, though. "The solution to pollution is
dilution" in their case (though I'd still opt for max surface area over
depth.)

My $.02.
