While they were certainly the leader of the high end Plant hardware business in the 1980's and very early 1990's, their equipment was very expensive, almost prohibitive in the US. But the hobby has absolutely exploded since then, and there was no way a company like Dupla was going to stick around resting on their previous success. Some of Dupla's products were never proven to have serious results (eg, heading cables), and have disappeared (along with dupla itself) into oblivion. I would say that Aqua Design Amano has definitely replaced them in the high end expensive gadget department... unlike Dupla's stuff, Amano's equiment has an aesthetic as well as function, plus bizarre names that make "Duplarit" seem descriptive. For years, they had no importer into the US, and now they are imported by Aquarium Design Group. Their glass tanks are incredible. Meanwhile, other companies like Seachem have very effective and affordable fertilizers and substrate. And hobbyists have discovered the fun of rolling their own fertilizers and using commercial clays for substrate (at substantially-reduced prices). Our meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of every month at the SPU campus.
