It's all the dilemma of 'do-I-want-to-MAXIMIZE' the size of a fish or give it a healthy environment that may not make it the biggest fish possible? I run across that with talk about goldfish all the time. I've got some simple comets I've had for over 10 years and none of them are larger than roughly 3 1/2" - 4" because they've been in whiskey-barrel size mini-ponds. They eat, they roughhouse and they produce babies so I don't think they are in awful shape. I just have to remind myself that I'm personally not thinking about koi from a competitive perspective but more from an enjoyment perspective. So if I have some koi I enjoy keeping but they aren't the size of a small porpoise, that's OK. I'm hoping to put in a solarium/sunroom on the south side of my house with an adjacent koi pond in the next 2-5 years (sooner the better). The smaller koi pond just outside the office space at Pan Intercorp is kind of what I had in mind....or a more above ground 'model'. I've been wondering if koi that have been in a more size-restricted space for a number of years would grow if put into a larger space???? That said, I have 2 of the smallish koi from the koi show in a 150g stock tank so we'll see what happens.....
