Are you suggesting these other bulbs will fit my Coralife fixtures?   
Compact fluorescent, 4 pin straight?

I still wonder what is next though because there has got to be  
something, right?

I agree that Metal Halide seems way overkill for a freshwater tank.   
My plants would be insane though.
