James suggested the following [almost] simple rules: >Putting this comment together with everyone else's feelings and comments, Iam >left with the following: > > 1. The event is open to the submission of entries of all freshwater > aquascapes. Excellent. > 2. All submitted entries will be Showcased on the Web. Excellent. Perhaps there will be some categorization? Aquatic Garden, rockpile, artsy arrangements, Etc. Not just a mish-mosh of photos? Don't ask the entrant for a category; the webmaster or panel-of-experts can do that. > 3. Only aquatic gardens (Olga's "planted aquascape contest") are eligible to > > be Judged in the Contest portion of the event. Doesn't this open up the issues that we have always had? Is a rockpile with a single, perfectly placed Java Fern not an Aquatic Garden? How about a carpet of Glossostigma with three perfectly placed rocks (Amano's "Mountain scape")? An "aquatic garden" to one person may be simply "plants growing in pots underwater" to another. Is it to be a "Dutch planted tank contest" where the winner is the one closest to what the judges think a Dutch tank is? We will be hard-pressed to define "aquatic garden". I would suggest all entries are eligible for judging if the entrant desires to be judged. Let the judging itself determine what is "best". We might be pleasantly surprised. Let's change number 3 to: > 3. All entries are eligible for judging if so desired by the entrant. The winner will be the photo that best demonstrates that freshwater aquascaping RULES compared to reef tanks." OK, perhaps that last sentence was a bit facetious. Don't beat me up, James.
